Privet hedge is half-wintergreen and hard. If there has been a severe winter, many leaves have fallen off and the branches may have been frozen. In spring the strong hedge plant always grows out again.

There are 4 to 5 privet plants in a linear metre.

For a beautiful, tight hedge, prune the privet hedge twice a year, in April (after the night frost) and at the end of September. The hedge will then remain compact. In the autumn, blackcurrants appear on the privet hedge. The privet does well on any type of soil, including poor soils.

Always prune the privet hedge with a sharp hand pruning shear or an electric pruning shear.
