The 1 cm thick, round fruits are black-blue, slightly ripened and stand upright on a short stalk. They ripen in September and October.
The acid-bitter flesh is only edible after the frost. It contains 0.4-0.5 percent organic acids, the same amount of pectin, 5-10 percent sugar, 12 percent minerals and about 100 mg vitamin C. They can be eaten dried and in fruit juice, purée, wine liqueur, jelly and mamelade.
